Weaning notes

All I can say is that sometimes I feel all zen with the decision to wean my baby boy. And then sometimes I feel like I’m trying to squeeze into a dress that’s too small. It just doesn’t feel right.

I question why. And then I remind my very sleep deprived psyche that it needs to [...]

Wean him and Weep

D-Boy is 17 months now. He’s a climber. A runner. A little dude with energy. I think it’s time.

I think.

But now that I’ve decided to wean my sweet little boy from breastfeeing, I find myself weeping over it. I was folding laundry this morning, and came across a few 6 month sized onsies and I [...]

Mama drama

Me: Yes, I still breastfeed my baby.

Her: Oh! Um. He’s like, walking.

Me: Yep! Since 13 months. I’m so proud! (Knowing EXACTLY where she’s going).

Her: And how old is he now? (Creepy face emerging)

Me: Almost 16 months. He’s so precious! (Stomping her implications out.)

Her:  So, when are you going to stop? Don’t those teeth hurt?

Me: Hmmm? [...]

Or the lack there of

Please. Pleeeease. I just need some sleep. These night wakings are doing me in.

And the crying-it-out thing in the middle of the night just doesn’t feel right. Cause how do you really know what the crying’s about?

His first molar erupted last week, and the one above it is peeking through red and swollen gums. Owww. [...]

Judgements

While it makes me sad to hear that a woman didn’t breastfeed her child, I don’t assume she was being selfish or lazy. Why a Mom doesn’t nurse her baby is private, and quite frankly, I think it’s pretty lame to label her so harshly.

For goodness sake. If you have breastfed, you know it’s no [...]

Breastfeeding with new baby teeth

I’m encountering a new pattern while nursing my newly toothed son… and it’s leaving me quite sore.
HE BIIIIIIITES!

He doesn’t do it everyday. Or every time. But when he does it… SAVE ME for the love of tender nips, it hurts something fierce! There are a couple of things going on here. First things first. I [...]

Penny Pinching, Part 1

In this crazy world, we need to turn to each other for ideas on how to make ends meet each month. I am a SAHM, and I want to keep this line of work for as long as I can, so here is an ongoing series of my personal penny pinching tricks. Enjoy!

Sick titty

So, I’ve got these absolutely narly sores in two places. One on my right breast. The other, next to my belly button. They’re infected. Like seriously, seriously infected. I nurse my 7 month old baby, so this is adding to the icky equation. I’ll spare you the details and photos, but trust me on this. If [...]

Z is for Zoo

Nursing while walking is easier than you’d think.

The Bronx Zoo was made for people like me. I just love it. My sweetheart took the day off from work and luckily, the weather was warm and sunny – the first after a LONG Winter. Yeah-hoo!! We ended up buying the annual membership for a year’s worth [...]

No TV for me

Ooh! Oprah… my favorite. She was on Tivo and the topic was on Motherhood. Yes!! I was so excited to see it on my list that I immediately pushed play. Knowing full well that it may not pan-out, but a girl can try. Plus, in the moment, it seemed like I had an opportunity to [...]
